Some of the most-talked-about celebrity lip products cost less than a takeout lunch. We went through interviews, videos and posts and kept products that celebrities named on the record, along with celebrity-founded brand picks, then checked US prices and looked for cheaper options. For the brand picks, we could not independently verify that the celebrity named or used the exact product.

Quick answer

The cheapest celebrity-mentioned lip products are drugstore staples: Aquaphor, Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm and Carmex all cost under $7. Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask ($24) is the most-named pricier pick. rhode, Fenty Beauty and Rare Beauty round out the list, but treat these as celebrity-founded brand picks, not verified endorsements of the exact products. The cited brand pages do not confirm that the celebrities named used those products.

  • Best under $7: Aquaphor Healing Ointment (Billie Eilish, Vogue, 2022)
  • Best tint for almost nothing: Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm (Margot Robbie, British Vogue)
  • Best overnight mask: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (Charli XCX, Kendall Jenner)
  • Best cheaper swap for a celebrity-founded brand pick: e.l.f. Thirst Burst Lip Treatment ($8), which, like rhode’s lip treatment, lists palmitoyl tripeptide-1

How we picked these

This list is researched, not a hands-on review. A product made the list only if we could open a source this month that either shows the celebrity naming it or documents the celebrity’s brand connection: a video or interview in which the celebrity names it, a reputable publication quoting them directly, or a cited brand page. A few well-known claims didn’t make it because we couldn’t trace them back to the celebrity. For celebrity-founded brand picks, we did not independently verify use of the exact product. We then checked prices on brand sites or Target in October 2026 and compared published ingredient lists for the alternatives.

Two caveats. Many of these sources are a few years old, and people’s routines change, so a mention from 2020 is a snapshot, not a current habit. We also distinguish a celebrity’s role in founding or associating with a brand from current corporate ownership and any equity or royalties; the cited sources do not establish that the celebrities named still hold equity or royalties in these products.

Prices checked Oct 2026 on the brand site or Target as listed. Prices change and sales are common, so check before you buy.

1. Aquaphor Healing Ointment: about $6

Who’s mentioned it: In Vogue’s “Billie Eilish’s Post-Show Beauty Routine” Beauty Secrets video (Vogue, 2022), Billie Eilish puts on Aquaphor at the end of her routine. Grazia quotes her calling it “the love of my life” and saying she uses it as her lip gloss: “I don’t use anything else, if I do it’s on top of this and it’s just for like a shine.” That was in 2022, so her routine may have changed since.

Why it’s popular: It’s a petrolatum-based ointment that seals in moisture. It isn’t made only for lips, which is why one tube ends up doing several jobs. It’s also very cheap: Target lists the 1.75 oz tube at $6.29, and Aquaphor also sells smaller lip-specific tubes.

Cheaper alternative: At this price, you don’t really need one.

2. Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm: about $5

Who’s mentioned it: Margot Robbie told British Vogue, as quoted by Get The Gloss (2021): “For a little lip colour I’ll just use the tinted lip balms by Burt’s Bees.” Some outlets have tried to name the exact shade, but we couldn’t confirm which one, so pick whichever tint you like.

Why it’s popular: It’s sheer color with no lip liner and no precision needed. Target lists single shades such as Rose and Hibiscus at $4.99.

Cheaper alternative: It’s already one of the cheapest tints at a big-box store.

3. Carmex Classic Lip Balm Stick: about $1 a stick

Who’s mentioned it: Tan France of Queer Eye named the Carmex Classic stick as his go-to in an interview with The Strategist. PinkNews (2021) quotes him: “This is going to make me sound pathetic, but I started using it because Carrie Bradshaw used it.” We couldn’t open the original Strategist page, so we’re relying on PinkNews’s quote.

Why it’s popular: It’s nostalgic and inexpensive. Target lists a 4-pack of Classic sticks at $4.49 ($4.04 on sale when we checked). Target lists the Classic stick as a medicated lip balm. If your lips are sensitive, check the ingredient list before you buy a multipack.

4. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask: from $24

Who’s mentioned it: In British GQ’s “10 Things Charli xcx Can’t Live Without” (2024), Charli XCX names the mask as an everyday essential. NewBeauty (2024) quotes her: “I just really use this every day.” In August 2024, Laneige announced a brand partnership with Charli XCX (Hypebae); terms were not disclosed. Her GQ comments came before that deal.

Kendall Jenner also shows the mask in Vogue’s “Kendall Jenner: In The Bag” video. HollywoodLife (2023) quotes her: “I love having this on me just to put a little shine on.” We couldn’t confirm the video’s exact upload date.

Why it’s popular: It’s a thick, balmy mask that Laneige markets as an overnight treatment. Laneige’s US site lists shea butter, murumuru butter, coconut oil and vitamin C among the key ingredients, and prices start at $24 for 20 g.

Cheaper dupe: e.l.f. Holy Hydration! Lip Mask ($8 at Target). It’s also a leave-on mask you can wear overnight, and it has a berry scent. Both formulas contain shea butter. e.l.f. additionally lists squalane, hyaluronic acid and castor seed oil, but the formulas are otherwise different. It’s a reasonable alternative if you like the idea of a lip mask, not a copy of Laneige’s.

Worth it?

If you’ll use it every night, $24 for 20 g lasts a while and the price works out fine. If you just want a balm before bed, Aquaphor does a similar sealing job for about a quarter of the price.

5. Glossier Balm Dotcom: $16

Who’s mentioned it: Ina Garten posted on Instagram about visiting a Glossier store and buying eight shades of Balm Dotcom, according to PAPER (January 2020). When followers asked whether it was sponsored, PAPER reports she replied: “No! I never promote anything so I can just share what I love!” That post is from 2020, so treat it as a snapshot.

Why it’s popular: It’s a small, pretty tube with lots of flavors and tints. Glossier’s page lists castor seed oil, beeswax and lanolin as key ingredients. It costs $16 for 15 ml.

Cheaper alternative: Aquaphor ($6.29) isn’t a dupe. It’s a different, petrolatum-based formula with no flavor or tint. But if you mostly want a balm that softens dry lips, it does the same basic job for less. If you want a tint, the Burt’s Bees balm above is $4.99.

6. rhode Peptide Lip Treatment: $20 (founded by Hailey Bieber)

The connection: rhode is a brand founded by Hailey Bieber. In 2025, e.l.f. Beauty acquired rhode, according to its press release. Bieber remains founder, chief creative officer and head of innovation. The cited source does not establish her current equity or royalty interest or verify that she used or endorsed this exact product.

Why it’s popular: It’s a glossy balm in a tube that sits somewhere between a treatment and a gloss. rhode lists palmitoyl tripeptide-1, shea butter and vitamin E, and charges $20 for 10 ml. When we checked, the unscented version showed a waitlist, so stock may be limited.

Cheaper dupe: e.l.f. Thirst Burst Lip Treatment Plump + Quench ($8 for 0.35 oz at Target). Its ingredient list also includes palmitoyl tripeptide-1, plus cocoa butter and castor seed oil, and it has a glossy balm finish. It’s not the same formula. Note that e.l.f. Beauty acquired rhode in 2025.

7. Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb: $23 (founded by Rihanna)

The connection: Fenty Beauty is a brand founded by Rihanna. The brand’s About page does not establish Rihanna’s current equity or royalty interest or verify that she used or endorsed this exact product. It says Rihanna “was inspired to create the world of Fenty Beauty brands.”

Why it’s popular: It’s a high-shine gloss, and the “Universal” in the name signals that it’s meant to be an easy shade for many people. Fenty says it’s made with shea butter, vitamin E and peptide. The core shades are $23, and Fenty listed one shade (Fu$$y) at $16 when we checked.

Cheaper alternative: NYX Butter Gloss ($5.99 at Target). It’s a glossy lip gloss at about a quarter of the price, so it does the same basic job. The ingredients are different, so expect a similar look rather than the same formula.

8. Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil: $24 (founded by Selena Gomez)

The connection: Rare Beauty is a brand founded by Selena Gomez. The brand’s About page does not establish Gomez’s current ownership, equity or royalty interest or verify that she used or endorsed this exact product. It includes a “Note From Our Founder” from her.

Why it’s popular: It’s a sheer tinted oil that adds color and shine without a sticky feel. Rare Beauty lists jojoba seed oil and sunflower seed oil, and charges $24 for 3 ml.

Cheaper dupe: e.l.f. Glow Reviver Lip Oil ($9 for 0.25 fl oz at Target). It’s also a tinted lip oil, and you get more product: about 7.4 ml versus 3 ml. Retailer ingredient lists we saw include jojoba oil among several plant oils, but check the current list on the pack.

What we left out

A few famous claims didn’t make it. The best-known is MAC’s Velvet Teddy lipstick and its long association with Kylie Jenner. We found plenty of reports about it but no first-hand statement from her that we could open. Clinique’s Black Honey also has big celebrity buzz, but the mentions we found were secondhand, came through makeup artists, or were tied to brand campaigns. We couldn’t confirm a first-hand, independent one in time for this guide.

Not medical advice. If your lips are cracked, bleeding, swollen or not healing, or you react to a product, see a doctor or dermatologist. Fragrance, flavorings and some ingredients in lip products can irritate sensitive skin.

FAQ

Do these celebrities endorse these products?

No celebrity endorsement is implied by Opeau. We report what each person has said or shown in a cited source, such as a video, an interview or a post, and label celebrity-founded brand picks separately. rhode, Fenty Beauty and Rare Beauty are celebrity-founded brands; e.l.f. Beauty acquired rhode in 2025. The cited pages do not independently verify use of the exact products or establish current equity or royalties for the celebrities named. In August 2024, Laneige announced a brand partnership with Charli XCX; terms were not disclosed. None of the celebrities is affiliated with Opeau.

What is the cheapest celebrity lip product on this list?

Carmex Classic sticks work out to about $1 each in a Target 4-pack ($4.49). Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm ($4.99) and Aquaphor Healing Ointment ($6.29) are close behind.

Is the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask worth $24?

If you’ll use it every night and like a thick, scented balm, it may be worth the price. If you just want an overnight sealant, Aquaphor does a similar job for much less, and e.l.f.’s $8 Holy Hydration! Lip Mask is a cheaper mask alternative.

Is there a cheaper version of the rhode Peptide Lip Treatment?

e.l.f.’s Thirst Burst Lip Treatment ($8) also lists palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and has a glossy balm finish. It’s a different formula, so think of it as an alternative, not an exact copy.

Are these celebrities still using these products?

We can’t say. Celebrity-usage sources range from 2020–2024; the ownership source is 2025; prices were checked in 2026. Routines change, so use the dated source details to judge for yourself.
